At some point, we had several people who know what they're doing suggest that we add stair skirts to finish the stair look & give the stairs something to rest on.

It was not nearly as easy as Pinterest would lead you to believe, but it did make the stairs look way better, even though they still looked pretty crappy.
Parker even got in on the action, helping me out with the painting (July 18th):
