Trip to the Fair

Normally, we like to take a day off & go to the fair, but this year Keith's schedule didn't agree with that, so we headed down as early as possible Saturday morning to see if we could beat the crowds.

Cecily was SO JEALOUS last year when Parker got to go on the rides, so we were hoping she'd be tall enough this year.  She wasn't even close to tall enough, but the minimum-wage teenager running the ride didn't seem to care either way, so ride she did.

But Parker's favorite part was where he got to "ride the tractors":

Some feed supply company was giving free tractor rides...you just had to smile for the photo that they'd try to sell you when you were done.  Somehow we got out of there without buying anything, perhaps because I have enough scowling photos of Cecily already.

All-in-all it was a great day, we got some fair food, the weather was beautiful, and we were heading home before the crowds really descended.

Today's Project ~ The Front Door

I've been wanting to paint our front door since we painted the house three years ago, but I wasn't sure what color to do.  Red would be too patriotic, green to Seahawks, purple...well, purple would be fine, but nearly every other surface in the house is purple, so I have to give Keith some kind of a break.

So, this week, I decided to just up & do it.  I went to Home Depot and pretty much bought the first can of spray paint that I liked (Parker's vote was for dark brown, but I managed to talk him out of it).

Before:

After:

I did several coats of yellow when Parker was at PreSchool (with the door still attached), but the finish wasn't very good.  I ended up taking the door off and putting one more whole can of yellow on, plus most of a can of clear shiny.  It's much better now, but still not perfect, don't look too close.

I think that next time I get the brilliant idea to paint our metal front door, I'm just going to go buy something new.  It will be easier on everyone.

But, with that said, it adds a nice pop of color to the front yard.

Painting!

The gym was closed this week, and the kids were getting a little punchy, so I made up a batch of foamy paint and sent them outside.

It didn't entertain them as long as I'd hoped, but at least for the 15 minutes they played I had peace in the house.  ...I'm just not sure it was worth the 10-minutes of set-up and 30 minutes of clean-up.

First Day of School!

I wasn't really sure what to title this: "Parker's second first day of preschool" doesn't have much of a ring to it.  I suppose, technically, he's in pre-K now, but his school doesn't call it that, so I probably won't either.

Anyway, it's the first day of school, and this boy is excited!

So excited, he even let me measure him on the ruler.  Granted, it's Cecily's ruler, but at least he smiled.
