Keith's Dad came over to help with the construction. Keith was convinced that they could get it done in three days and then we could take the rest of the week to go camping. I wasn't convinced, but turns out he was right.
On the first day, they spent most of the time taking down the railings and getting started:
End of Day 1:
By Day 2, they were moving along quicker:
Day 3 they finished off the top & did the stairs:
When they were cleaning up Parker wanted to help, so Keith had him stand in the middle and "supervise"
By the end of Day 3, we were done!
Well, not quite. We're still missing the railings. I could say all manner of unkind things about the company who sold us our railings in regards to their communication, speed of delivery, and follow-up, but we're a family-friendly blog, so I'll refrain. As it is, once the deck was completely built, we finally heard from Dunn that the railings wouldn't be ready for 4 more weeks, and then it would be a few days more for installation. I was understandably thrilled to hear this news since it made our death-trap of a deck totally un-useable for the bulk of summer. So, Keith called Nathan who very graciously came over on Sunday night & helped us scab together a railing of sorts. It's not pretty, but the kids are unlikely to die with it.
