Say good-bye to the polka dots!

I briefly considered post-dating this entry, but it happened so long ago, I can't remember the date any more! So, here you go...

My parents & Jared are heading down to Mexico for the week, so we took this as the perfect opportunity to finally save our family room from it's polka-dot infestation while we didn't have to live in it.

With the baby-on-board, we decided to do the responsible thing and go with the low-VOC, no-fumes, non-toxic, crazy-expensive style paint (Denise would be so proud). Of course, being who we are (naturally lazy), we also went with the paint-plus-primer combo stuff (which, as a side-note was AWESOME, it totally covered the polka dots in one coat with the ivory).

We spent Friday evening moving everything not bolted down (and a few that were) out of the room into the two spare bedrooms. And seriously, painting a large room is so much easier when you have an assortment of more large, empty rooms just down the hallway. No more climbing over the couch to get to the refrigerator for us, no sir.

And in an astonishingly short time, the room was done!
You can still see the outlines of the polka dots, but at least the colors are covered. I think it might take another 6-8 coats of paint (and possibly some time with a sander) to fully get rid of the shape. But the room looks so much better!
Since the above picture was taken, we've also added new curtains, and Keith built a shelf along the top of the ledge, but that's another post.
