About 2 weeks ago, Keith & I were discussing how we could get away with not going to Great Wolf Lodge this year. They best solution would be to go on another adventure that would be approximately as expensive, only without the crowds. We looked into Victoria, or Bellingham, but somehow ended up with a ski trip to Leavenworth.
Keith is the only skier in the family, so I'm a little fuzzy on how we can to this decision, but that's what we decided, so we're off to Leavenworth.
We booked two nights at a hotel that was nothing fancy, but it had a pool and we got a suite, and it was good enough for us. We were walking distance to "downtown" Leavenworth and we had plenty of room.
For dinner, we went to the outdoor sausage restaurant and ate around the fireplace.
I haven't been to Leavenworth in the winter in forever, the Christmas lights were still up and it was absolutely beautiful.
Tuesday morning, we headed up to Stevens to attempt skiing.
We booked the trip too late, so all the classes were booked. So, we had one skilled skier (Keith) attempting to teach all the rest of us at once, what could possibly go wrong?
Cecily was crying before we even got the skis strapped on.
Parker actually had a good time, he slid around on the "hill" beside the "magic carpet"/bunny slope for a while, and went down the magic carpet slope twice.
I managed to go down the magic carpet slope twice as well, but I spent most of the time with Cecily who really just wanted to sit like this next to the building.
After lunch, we gave up on the skiing and Keith went out for the afternoon with a friend that we ran into while the kids & I hung out in the lodge. I finished my book and the kids watched a movie, all-in-all not a bad (although certainly an expensive) way to spend the day.
Next year, we'll buy all three of us the 3-lesson package and let the professionals tell us what to do (and deal with Cecily).
But, skiing aside, it was a really great trip. We had so much fun just hanging out as a family.
