We've been prepping Cecily that 5-year-olds don't have binkies and that she'll have to get rid of hers when she turns five.
Seeing how Cecily's fifth birthday is the first day of our trip to Sunriver, we set the last-day-of-binky as the last day of school to spare the rest of the family the binky drama. So, for the last few months, we've been prepping Cecily that on the last day of school we were going to get rid of binky; but then we would go to the toy store and she could pick out whatever stuffy she wanted that would help her when she's sad just like binky did.
I picked her up from school on Wednesday and she said, "Can we go to the toy store & get my binky-stuffy?"
"Yes... You understand that there's no binky after you get the stuffy? You'll have to throw it away?"
"Yes"
"You're sure?"
"Yes"
"Okay little girl, whatever you want"
And so we did. We went to the store, picked out two new stuffies and came home to throw away binky.
She took one last suck and it went in the trash.
Her new stuffies: Fluffy and Rarity
This was several weeks ago and she's done amazingly well. She's had a few sad points where she's really missed binky, mostly at bedtime and in the car, but she's done surprisingly well.
If there's one thing we know about this girl, she does things how she wants and on her own timeline.
