Bye Bye Binky

We've been prepping Cecily that 5-year-olds don't have binkies and that she'll have to get rid of hers when she turns five.

Seeing how Cecily's fifth birthday is the first day of our trip to Sunriver, we set the last-day-of-binky as the last day of school to spare the rest of the family the binky drama.  So, for the last few months, we've been prepping Cecily that on the last day of school we were going to get rid of binky; but then we would go to the toy store and she could pick out whatever stuffy she wanted that would help her when she's sad just like binky did.

I picked her up from school on Wednesday and she said, "Can we go to the toy store & get my binky-stuffy?"
"Yes...  You understand that there's no binky after you get the stuffy?  You'll have to throw it away?"
"Yes"
"You're sure?"
"Yes"
"Okay little girl, whatever you want"

And so we did.  We went to the store, picked out two new stuffies and came home to throw away binky.

She took one last suck and it went in the trash.

Her new stuffies: Fluffy and Rarity

This was several weeks ago and she's done amazingly well.  She's had a few sad points where she's really missed binky, mostly at bedtime and in the car, but she's done surprisingly well.

If there's one thing we know about this girl, she does things how she wants and on her own timeline.

Reading

He's quizzing her on her letters.
"Cecily! You have to learn it so you can read next year in kindergarten!"

It should probably be mentioned that Parker's reading isn't exactly astounding either, but at least he's looking out for little sister.

Memorial Day camping trip

Several months ago, Dianne e-mailed and asked if we wanted to go camping Memorial Day.  I said something along the lines of "who doesn't love camping in the rain?  We're in."

Turns out the weather was incredible and we had a great time.

We went up to the Concrete/Grandy Creek campground that we went to several years ago.  The kids love the open space for bike riding, bouncy pillow, and of course the pool.

Parker still LOVES the putt-putt course and I think he must have done about 20 rounds on that thing.

I forgot to pack pajamas for Parker and he would not let me forget it.
My headstone will read:
She was a good Mama
But I wish she didn't forget my jammies that one time.

But, forgotten jammies aside, we had a great time.

Cecily & I got to join Parker's class on a field trip to the zoo.  The weather was amazing and we had a great time.

Outfit selection is a big deal in this house.

After the 6 skirts/shorts are laid out, we also add 6 different sets of hair accessories and necklaces.

It's really a wonder we ever get anywhere on time.

Happy Birthday Julie!

I turned 40 this year, so Keith threw me a party.  The weather cooperated and we had a great time and took almost no photos.

One more stop...

I'll just stop by Home Depot on the way and buy a million pounds of dirt all by myself. That doesn't sound like a terrible idea AT ALL..

She made her own recipe

Sleepy

When you were told to stay in your room, but your sister is listening to her new Moana CD...naturally you fall asleep in the doorway.

But I'm not sleepy...

...and now I'm stuck in this position, holding her head up.

Happy Mother's Day

Keith has this incredible ability to read the kids a book and sleep at the same time.  I wish I could figure it out.

Mother's Day Party

Cecily's Preschool class had a Mother's Day party.  Cecily picked out my outfit for me:

We planted flowers,

Then we played ponies, which is Cecily's very favorite part of Preschool
