Calligraphy

I've been wanting to learn how to do the fancy "modern" calligraphy that is everywhere, so when my friend told me about a class in Wallingford, I went ahead & signed up.

I'm pretty sure it is not my gifting, but it was fun and I'm better than I was when I started, but still not very good.

I convinced my friend Kim to join me too.

Bellingham Adventure Day

We had a free Saturday afternoon, so after soccer, we headed up to Bellingham for the day.

We had lunch at the Boundary Bay Brewery, wandered downtown, went to Boulevard Park, and got ice cream and doughnuts at Acme Ice Cream.  An all-around great day.

Shoreline Fire Station Open House

The fire station open house is one of Keith's, um, I mean the kid's favorite days of the fall.  We get to see them tear apart a car, climb in a fire truck, and spray the fire hose.

Today's Projects

Now that the kids are back in school and the craft room isn't a disaster, I can actually get going on a few projects.

I made a scrap catcher for my serger:

I found the front quilt block in with my Mom's stash of quilt things I was cleaning out of the craft room.

I canned applesauce!

And, I made a new holder for my re-useable straws that I keep in my purse.  Now I have a pocket for clean straws and a separate section for dirty.

Cecily's Buddy

Cecily has made friends with a 4th grader who's Mom was a recess teacher last year.  Now, nearly every morning, Elsa waits for Cecily to show up and walks her to class.  It's adorable.

One morning, they caught us on our walk to school, so the girls got to walk together the last two blocks.

It's been such a blessing, some days the promise of seeing Heidi & Elsa are the only things getting Cecily out the door to school in the morning.

Meet Cat-ie, our local caterpillar

I found this monstrous caterpillar on our neighbors fence.  It hung out for about a week, and we were hoping it would build it's chrysalis right here, but it eventually moved on.  It was so enormous, I can't imagine what the butterfly would look like.

Today's Project ~ Rescue the Craft Room

My craft room has become a disaster, I have way too much stuff in there and it's impossible to do anything.  So, now that the kids are back in school, it's time to tackle the craft room.  Before:

After a solid 4 hours of purging, it's still not great:

About a week later, I finally had it all cleaned out, and for the first time ever, I actually vacuumed in the craft room.
